La Luz is the port for Gran Canaria and is one of the most important Spanish ports, located halfway between Europe and Africa. The port is accessible in all weather conditions and is very protected thanks to the presence of the La Isleta bay, which can accommodate large ships. Its strategic location has historically made it an important port in terms of maritime traffic and trade. There are daily connections to the other islands of the archipelago between June and October and the port also hosts cruise ships.
After arriving at the port you will find beautifully perfumed tree-lined avenues and magnificent beaches with crystal clear waters. One wonderful beach with the honey-colored sand is Playa de las Canteras. Around the port there is some high-class accommodation, restaurants, shops and Spanish-style architecture that frames the very busy port.
Just outside the port area is El Muelle, a shopping center with lots of shops. The passenger terminal, Santa Catalina is six kilometers from the center and is both a cruise terminal and terminal for passenger ferries. There are bus stops directly in front of the terminal, from which you can get all over the island and the city. Gran Canaria Airport is 25 kilometers from La Luz port, and is easily accessible by car on the GC-1 road. By bus, continue until disembarking at the Santa Catalina stop near the port, connections are available until 11.15 pm every day.
