Tenerife or Gran Canaria? Netferry helps you decide!

Tenerife and Gran Canaria are the two most popular Canary Islands, and tourists flock here for the sunshine and warm temperatures all year round. Both islands have unique volcanic rock formations, plenty of sandy beaches, great local food and entertainment, so there's a lòot to explore. Today Netferry compares the two islands to inform you before your next trip to the Canary Islands.

Tenerife

Tenerife is the biggest island in the Canary archipelago, and it attracts over six million visitors a year. There are lots of mainly British package resorts, clubs and nightlife. But, when you go beyond here, you'll discover an island of extraordinary beauty, with remote mountain-ridge villages, interesting port settlements and charming ancient towns as massive biodiversity. Whilst package resorts sound like a drag to most people these days, some of these resorts are actually well planned out and feature some great swimming pools and water parks. For example, Thai-themed Siam Park is an absolute must. It offers a range of attractions from the relaxing lazy river ride to a 28-meter water slide for daredevils! Why not do a day at the water park and a day of hiking? In terms of beaches, Fañabé beach is best for water sports, while La Tejita's endless sand is perfect for those who enjoy sunbathing. For foodies, this is the only Canary island with Michelin Star restaurants including Kabuki, El Rincón de Juan Carlos, and M.B. Tenerife.

Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria is a slightly smaller island, it is quite similar to Tenerife, but is most famous for its diverse scenery that you can't find on any of the surrounding islands. The terrain ranges from green and leafy in the north to lush mountainous interiors and deserts in the south. Even the climate can vary, from cooler high altitudes to dry baking heat, to foggy and swampy. For the sporty types, there are hiking, cycling and water sports available while culture vultures will enjoy Las Palmas, the historic, cosmopolitan capital. Cueva Pintada Museum & Archaeological Park and Cenobio de Valerón. One of the most unique and exciting things to do on the island is to visit the dunes in the south; it feels like you're in the middle of the Sahara Dessert.
